What Is Medium Fusible Interfacing Used For?
Medium fusible or iron-on interfacing is used for any sewing project where you need to give your fabric some additional structure or stability.
How To Use Medium Fusible Interfacing
If you feel the interfacing between your fingers and thumb, you will feel that one side is smooth whilst the other is rough. The rough side is the sticky (fusible) side and the interfacing should therefore be placed with this side down on the wrong side of your fabric.
Using a hot iron, press the iron firmly on top of the interfacing and hold for 8 – 10 seconds. Move the iron slowly over the smooth surface of the interfacing, holding for 8-10 seconds in each spot until you have covered and therefore fused the entire area. Leave to cool for a few minutes to give the adhesive time to set.
To be extra safe, lay a damp tea towel on top of your interfacing before you iron; ie iron your fusible interfacing through the damp tea towel.
